IMPORTANT: Effective beginning on January 1, 2011, over-the-counter medicines or drugs (e.g. Advil, Ibuprofen, cough syrup) are not eligible for reimbursement under an FSA, without a doctor’s prescription. Insulin is the only medicine that doesn’t require a prescription. Also supplies that you need for medical care (e.g. contact lens solutions, bandages for wounds, thermometers) will continue to be eligible for reimbursement.
As such, upcoming enrollment in your employer’s flexible spending account should take into consideration as of 1/1/2011, over the counter items will no longer be reimbursable under the health FSA.

Things to Remember for 2010-2011

    Coastal Bend Employee Benefits Cooperative Cafeteria plan year is
    September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011.

  1. Flexible Spending Accounts: MGM is the Third Party Administrator (TPA) for CBEBC for plan year September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011. Debit Cards are available only to those districts that opted to participate in the plan. Direct deposit is available. Please remember to keep your receipts if you use your MGM Flex Card.


  2. Dental Insurance: Assurant Dental PPO is the dental carrier for plan year September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011. Assurant Dental PPO plan allows your family the freedom to see any dentist. The 12 month waiting period for major services is waived only for employees with prior coverage.


  3. Vision Insurance: Superior Vision is the vision carrier for plan year September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011. This plan allows all vision members to receive eye exams, lenses or contacts once a year and frames every two years. In-Network benefits have co-payments of $10 for exam and $25 for materials.   4. Disability: Good News!! Employees can enroll and/or increase their monthly benefit amount up to 66 2/3% of gross annual salary without evidence of good health. *Guarantee issue amounts are subject to pre-existing condition exclusions.   5. Cancer Insurance: American Public Life Cancer Plan is offering a Cancer Plan with Guarantee Issue …this means NO HEALTH QUESTIONS ARE REQUIRED (Subject to pre-existing condition exclusions) A plan summary and rates for the new plan are available to view by clicking on the “Benefits & Forms link/Cancer”.


  6. Accident Insurance: American Public Life Accident Plan is the new Accident provider for plan year September 1, 2010 through August 31, 2011. Accident Insurance is a supplemental insurance policy designed to pay in addition to any other insurance you have. This plan has ambulance, hospital and physician expense benefit.   7. Fort Dearborn Voluntary Life: Great News!! Voluntary term life insurance is available this year on a Guarantee Issue Basis for new hires and new Co-op Districts joining 09/01/2010. This means that employees may enroll up to the lesser of 5 times salary or $220,000 without having to provide medical history. Employees can also enroll their dependents up to 100% of employee election; the guaranteed issue limit is $50,000 for a spouse and up to $10,000 for children! Employees NOT NEW to the coop that want to add life insurance or increase their coverage are required to turn in an Evidence of Insurability form to qualify for life insurance.


  8. New! Identity Theft Insurance: CBEBC is now offering Identity Theft Protection through ID Watchdog. Monthly reporting alerts you to any identity threats or notifies you that there has been no change in the last 30 days. Full resolution services are included should your identity ever be compromised while utilizing ID Watchdog’s services. ID Watchdog identity specialists will work on your behalf to resolve issues, saving you time and money. At the end of the open enrollment period, ID Watchdog will contact you via email (if available), or by letter, with instruction on activating your account. The activation process take about two minutes and can be done online or over the phone with ID Watchdog customer service.


  9. Coastal Bend Employee Benefits Cooper Benefit plans for 2010-2011 plan year include: Assurant Dental Plan, Superior Vision, Unum Educator Disability, American Public Life Cancer & Accident, Fort Dearborn Term Life and AD&D, ID Watchdog Identity Theft Protection and Flexible Spending Accounts.
